CityFibre, a leading network operator, has officially launched the roll-out phase of its £108 million Project Gigabit contract, aimed at delivering next-generation, gigabit-capable full-fibre broadband to underserved areas in East and West Sussex. This ambitious project, part of the government’s wider Project Gigabit initiative, will extend CityFibre’s high-speed broadband network to more than 57,000 homes and businesses in some of the hardest-to-reach rural locations.

The new infrastructure will offer ultra-fast broadband speeds of up to 10Gbps, enabling local residents and businesses to benefit from the full potential of digital services. With a focus on improving connectivity in rural communities, CityFibre’s investment will provide these areas with reliable, future-proof broadband, ensuring they are not left behind in the digital age.

The £108 million contract, awarded by the government, is set to make a significant impact on the region’s connectivity. However, CityFibre is also contributing its own investment, aiming to expand the project’s reach even further to connect additional premises beyond the initial scope. This combined effort highlights CityFibre’s commitment to improving broadband access across the UK, particularly in rural areas that have historically struggled with slower internet speeds.

Once completed, the expanded network will ensure that thousands of homes and businesses in East and West Sussex have access to high-quality, gigabit-capable broadband. As part of the ongoing work, CityFibre’s team has already started connecting properties and is working efficiently to bring faster, more reliable broadband to these communities.

This major investment underscores CityFibre’s role in helping to bridge the digital divide and drive the UK’s transition towards a fully connected, digital future. With the support of Project Gigabit, the company is making substantial strides towards ensuring that no area is left behind in the race for better broadband.

The UK’s Telecoms minister, Sir Chris Bryant, said “It is fantastic to see spades in the ground delivering lightning-fast broadband to hard-to-reach parts of Sussex, and connecting communities that need it most. This government investment delivers faster internet in turn helping businesses to grow, securing more jobs, and ensures everyone has the digital access they need to thrive in the modern world.”

Residents and businesses in East and West Sussex can look forward to enhanced connectivity, faster downloads, smoother streaming, and improved access to essential online services, all thanks to the continued roll-out of CityFibre’s full-fibre network.
