Openreach has reached a major milestone in Northern Ireland, becoming the first region in the UK to achieve 90% coverage in its full fibre broadband rollout.
This is part of Openreach’s ongoing investment to deliver fast and reliable broadband to more than 830,000 homes and businesses across the region, including many in rural and previously underserved areas.
Lauren McGaughey, Acting Director of Openreach Northern Ireland, shared her excitement:
“Reaching 90% full fibre coverage is a huge achievement and shows our dedication to giving Northern Ireland world-class digital infrastructure. We’re not just building for today – we’re building for the future. Our aim is to make sure everyone, no matter where they live or work, has access to fast, reliable, and sustainable broadband.”
Currently, over 64% of customers on the Openreach network in Northern Ireland are already using full fibre broadband, with more expected to make the switch as the rollout continues.
McGaughey added, “This rollout is helping to bridge the gap between urban and rural areas. It gives people and businesses the freedom to choose where they live and work, supports flexible working, and even helps the environment by reducing the need to commute.”
Openreach’s rollout in Northern Ireland is on track to reach 97% coverage, further strengthening the region’s position as a digital leader.
