Virgin Media O2 has completed the rollout of its gigabit broadband services to more than 9,000 homes in Bath, enabling residents to enjoy ultra-fast connectivity. These homes can now access Gig2 broadband, offering speeds of up to 2Gbps, significantly enhancing internet experiences for households.
The expansion was made possible through the deployment of a full fibre network in the area. The network was developed by Nexfibre, a company investing £4.5 billion to bring high-speed fibre connections to 5 million homes across the UK by 2026. Nexfibre has already reached 1 million premises nationwide, marking significant progress in its mission.
Julie Agnew, Managing Director of Fixed Network Expansion at Virgin Media O2, highlighted the benefits of this milestone. “We’re thrilled to extend Virgin Media’s services to over 9,000 additional homes in Bath. Our packages include cutting-edge multi-gigabit broadband, as well as intuitive TV streaming and entertainment options. These reliable full-fibre connections are up to 27 times faster than the local average, ensuring seamless online experiences for households.”
Virgin Media O2 has already established itself as a leader in the gigabit revolution, offering speeds exceeding 1,000Mbps across its entire network. The company invests approximately £2 billion annually in its infrastructure and services and is working towards transitioning its entire network to full fibre technology in the near future.
Beyond broadband, Virgin Media O2’s mobile network boasts 4G coverage for 99% of the UK population and continues to expand its 5G network. Additionally, O2 remains the only mobile provider to maintain free roaming within Europe. Customers benefit from the company’s Priority rewards program, which offers exclusive deals, competitions, and presale event tickets.
For those looking to enhance their connectivity further, Virgin Media O2’s Volt program offers additional perks. Customers can enjoy double mobile data, roaming in 75 countries, and broadband speed boosts when combining Virgin Media and eligible O2 services.
Together, Virgin Media O2 and Nexfibre aim to connect up to 23 million premises—around 80% of the UK—by the end of the decade, solidifying their role as key players in the UK’s digital transformation.
