EE is making significant strides in its rollout of 5G standalone (5G SA) across the UK, with plans to bring it to over 28 million people in 50 major towns and cities by the end of March 2025. Following its initial 5G SA launch in September 2024, EE is expanding its network to include new areas like Altrincham, Blackburn, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Corby, Cwmbran, Doncaster, Exeter, Huddersfield, Hyde, Middlesbrough, Milton Keynes, Port Talbot, Rotherham, Sale, Sunderland, Wakefield, Walkden, and Wilmslow.

From now on, EE will also make 5G SA available to all new and upgrading customers taking any EE handset plan. This means more people can enjoy the benefits of this cutting-edge mobile network, which offers a smoother experience, especially in busy locations like high streets, train stations, and major stadiums, including Wembley Stadium.

5G SA allows smartphones and tablets to connect directly to a pure 5G network, bypassing the need for 4G. This direct connection gives users extra capacity, improving performance, particularly in crowded areas. As EE expands its 5G SA network to cover more than 40% of the UK population, customers can experience a more reliable mobile experience, especially with AI-powered tools available on newer smartphones.

The 5G SA network was first launched in cities like Bath, Belfast, Birmingham, Glasgow, London, and Manchester. EE’s expansion plan will soon bring the service to additional towns, ensuring that 95% of these areas have reliable outdoor coverage before announcing availability.

As 5G SA continues to grow, more consumers will have access to a faster and more reliable mobile network, enabling them to take full advantage of the latest smartphones and AI tools.

Malcolm Cubitt, EE’s Director of Mobile, emphasised, “5G standalone is giving many customers a better and more reliable mobile experience. As we rapidly expand our network footprint, we’re making this technology accessible to even more people, especially those wanting to maximize the latest features on the newest smartphones.”

With so many more smartphones now compatible with 5G SA, EE is ensuring that millions of customers across the UK can enjoy the performance benefits of this cutting-edge mobile technology.
