Virgin Media O2 has announced a major investment of £700 million in 2025 to enhance its mobile network reliability, speed, and coverage. This commitment equates to £2 million per day and comes in response to record-high network demand across the UK.

The company is focusing on improving service in high-traffic areas, such as city centres, stadiums, railways, and major roads. New masts, small cells, and upgrades to its 4G and 5G infrastructure will be key components of this investment. Additionally, Virgin Media O2 is looking to integrate automation and artificial intelligence (AI) to improve network performance.

In remote areas, where traditional infrastructure is difficult to implement, Virgin Media O2 will utilise satellite technology to connect mobile towers. This cost-effective solution will help eliminate signal dead zones and expand coverage to previously underserved locations.

As part of its broader Mobile Transformation Plan, Virgin Media O2 is set to phase out outdated technologies like its 3G network. This transition will allow the company to invest more in high-capacity, energy-efficient networks that support the latest innovations.

Chief Technology Officer Jeanie York emphasised the company’s vision, stating, We’re not just upgrading infrastructure; we’re creating a platform for future innovation. This programme ensures our customers will continue to benefit from superior reliability as new technologies and demands emerge.”

The £700 million mobile network investment is part of Virgin Media O2’s wider £2 billion commitment this year to enhance both its mobile and fixed networks. By combining financial investment with cutting-edge technology, the company aims to provide customers with a seamless and reliable connectivity experience wherever they are.
